Indian coffee
India grows both Arabica and Robusta coffee, mainly in the hills of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, with smaller growing areas in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and the North-East. Much of India's coffee grows under a canopy of shade trees, often alongside spices such as pepper and cardamom. This gives Indian coffees their mild, balanced character.
India is also home to Monsooned Malabar, a speciality coffee whose beans are exposed to the moist monsoon winds of India's west coast. This swells the beans and gives the cup its low acidity and full body.

Documents
Coffee exports from India are regulated by the Coffee Board of India. A typical shipment is supported by a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, a coffee certificate of origin issued through the Coffee Board, a phytosanitary certificate and a quality or analysis certificate where required.
Classification
Green coffee is classified under HS 0901 11 and roasted coffee under HS 0901 21. Your customs broker should confirm the exact tariff line for your country.
Shipping
Indian coffee is usually shipped in containers from southern ports close to the growing regions, such as Mangaluru, Kochi and Chennai. We recommend the best route for your destination.
